The Undervalued Technician
The value of the local services industry in India is now approximately $60 billion a year. Because of the consistently rising value of the internet and purchasing power, the demand for repair services will keep rising. Requirements of certain gadgets in the household daily and its upkeep and maintenance plus the variety of electronic and digital appliances available and in use simply translate into an ever-increasing demand for technical repair and handyman services. Unfortunately in all of these amazing advantages of being in the repair service industry, the average repair technician is still undervalued.
A repair technician is still struggling with organizing his work and getting clients to believe in his work and value it. Technicians from small shops or freelance technicians try to make the client see the work he does as something that isn’t always easy. Technical repair requires a good amount of knowledge, skill, and experience but, it takes years before a technician can actually make himself/herself known and price his work at a rate that he/she deserves. One reason that this happens is that people believe that a technician is not someone who is educated in the field and has just learned on the job. Bachelor in electronics is a degree that has some value and can be seen as important in the eyes of an employer hiring an educated technician. At the end of this course though, the technician really does not learn much which is why he/she will always have an on the job training period before they start regular work. Even the quality of independent courses that teach aspiring technicians to repair gadgets is not good enough.
There needs to be a movement of some sort to help these technicians in their plight. A movement in which a learning portal of some sort gives these technicians not just theoretical knowledge but even a hands-on, practical approach to their learning. These technicians should leave feeling more confident about what they know. The portal over a period of time will prove itself to produce technicians that actually know what they do and understand that it has a good value and a large market. Fortunately, there is one such portal. Can anybody guess which one?
